Where the Sidewalk Spends

I didn't think it was possible.

On Saturday, I grabbed the boys and participated in a school fundraiser that I loved.  I mean loved-loved.  That's right.  My Grinch-like attitude towards school fundraisers shrank three times smaller this weekend.

The Imadonnari event (street/sidewalk painting and chalking) was held at Jack's school.  I purchased three $10 squares for the boys to decorate while listening to live music and munching on bake sale goodies.  The day offered a fun, party-like atmosphere.  The weather was also spectacular.

Some pics from our afternoon:

In keeping with his "I'm a vampire" reluctance to be photographed, Dan did finally allow me to snap his square ONLY.

Jack, not one to stray from his single-minded obsession with sports, was happy to demonstrate his baseball proficiency without hesitation.

Joey drew a circle and three lines in his square before announcing he was done.  I may have helped him a little bit.  And I may have stolen a bit of chalk from Jack and Dan's supply.

The Chicago Picasso!  We all know how I feel about that one, right?

Anyone lose a jacket?

The Bean!
I was so happy to be involved in a fundraiser that didn't require hitting up friends and family to buy crap that nobody wants.  Imadonnari I can do.  And also Box Tops.

Box Tops actually make me giddy.  Next year?  I'm buying an Imadonnari square and drawing tons and tons of Box Tops.  Genius, right?

Sometimes they sing to me.

  1. This is the cutest fundraiser I have heard about and one I would have gladly supported (except on a rainy day, LOL). Love their artwork and their creativity! Box tops are great too. I know some of the stores here will donate a portion of your purchases to local schools. My kids are way out of school but I did sign up for the program for the local elementary school down the street to help as I could. That (and chocolate) are always fund raisers I'll support :)

    1. Thanks, Betty - this one was right up my alley! A Nutella fundraiser would almost be perfect if they also included Box Tops!

  2. I am a box top junkie I was collecting them even after my oldest were at of school & then I would donate them to my favorite schools. Now that I am going thru school days again with Jill we kick butt on box tops collecting. Loved the chalk drawings how great of a fund raiser. You all did a super job on the drawings :))

  3. My kids are 22 and 26. I still cut out box tops. Old habits die hard, I guess.

  4. Oh my gosh! I love that fundraising idea, as would my daughter with her sidewalk chalk obsession! I just wish the box tops were always in an easily rippable spot, with no scissors required...yes, I might be that lazy!

    1. I too usually just tear half the box off and then just deal with snipping them down later. I must say, that part does fulfil me....

  5. Oh Marianne - We should make a box top wager? Do you do your shopping online through the marketplace? I'm a little OCD with the online clip and earns!! Plus...it has spread to Greta. She happily announces when she "spots" a box top!

  6. What a great fundraiser idea! I'm ashamed to admit I'm a box top failure. I suck at remembering to cut the little squares out.

    1. Oh Barb. I will spend the rest of my life trying to convert you. It is such a source of joy to turn over 10,000 Box tops each year. And yes. I buy a lot of granola bars.

    1. I cried a little bit. Mostly from laughter. One kid drew the Jaws poster with the little fishing boat sitting right above the big Jaws mouth. Flippin' awesome.

  9. I love that idea so much more than selling Happenings books or overpriced chocolate (our school's favorites). You're all very artistic, too. I would've just traced my hands, and maybe my head.

    1. I don't think my hands or feet would have fit on the huge square, or I might have given it a whirl. And I know you're artistic, Jewels. You're just being modest!

  10. That's a pretty darn nifty idea. Much better than persecuting family members from purchases they don't really want or need.
