The Terminator

What kind of mettle does it take to axe one's long-term piano teacher?

  1. I'm the same way about confrontation and I tend to utilize the strongly worded letter as well. All I can say is it is a good thing we married men who don't mind becoming the Terminator for us! I have a feeling my husband suspects this is the number one reason I agreed to marry him. He's going to be doing a lot of eye rolling when I tell him I have read about our identical twins living way out there in Chicago!

  2. I'm the same way. I wish more things in life could be accomplished by strongly-worded letter. And unfortunately, Hubs is not exactly a Terminator, but it's okay--at least we can cower in the corner together.

  3. I am some where in the middle. It used to be that I would never confront people but now after LOTS of talking myself in to it I do it. I approach them with a script in my head and bright red face and hope it goes well!

  4. itsadomelife - I KNEW we had doppelgangers somewhere!!

Haley - Cowering is good. The cowerers never get shot or killed in a road rage incident. Some people call it "evolved."

Dollops - Scripting my comments in advance helps so much...until the other person responds. Then I'm in a pickle. My whole body turns red. Stupid stupid Marianne.

  5. I commend you guys for at least letting the General know that her services would no longer be required. Hubby is a guitar teacher and it is so frustrating for him to have people just not show up for lessons week after week after week until he realizes they probably won't be coming back; included someone from our church. He is very polite about it all; he just wnats to know if he should open up that time on his schedule. So you were great to have hubby confront the teacher in this particular situation; I'm sure it was taken well!

  6. My piano teacher ran away to be a priest. I don't what this says about me, but I think he definitely had problems with confrontation! Love Elle xo

  7. OMG! I laughed so hard at the end I cried! I totally didn't see that coming... Confrontation is not easy and I love that you have a terminator in your life that saves you from having to deal with it very often. Great post!

Also, I forgot to say in my comment over on Chicago Parent that I have been known to use scripts when making uncomfortable phone calls over the years. I wonder if the person on the other end could tell? It is sad/funny the stress we put ourselves through as parents over decisions like this...
