The Columnist

Dear Faithful Followers,

Please note that I have decided to go by this symbol:

Because as of January, I will be a monthly COLUMNIST for Chicago Parent Magazine!  So when speaking my name aloud, I would suggest using "The-Columnist-Formerly-Known-as-Marianne."

Or more simply, "The Columnist."

I feel like Pinocchio when he became a real boy, but without the whole creepy Geppetto side-story thing.

In the meantime, feel free to pick up November's Chicago Parent to find me on sexy page 117.  I have been told that the new column will "definitely appear closer to the front of the magazine at the start of the year."

I'm thinking page 103 has my name written all over it.

So thank you, gang.  Thank you for continuing to support all my nonsense, clear bipolar tendencies, and horrible decision-making process in raising 3 kids.

In some small way, you are helping make the world a better, more dysfunctional place.

Love,

  1. Whoa. I'm sure you are too important now to be bothered with the likes of us. (I wanted to say "the little people," but I didn't mean the Fisher Price ones, so it didn't really work as a turn-of-phrase in your particular case.) Congrats!

    1. Never! And you can use any little-people inspired phrase of your choosing (though you will always big a BIG person to me...in a non-body-related kind of way).

  5. Did you design the symbol yourself? Reminds me of snowmen and Nutella and happiness! Love it!

I think maybe you should dream a little bigger and set a goal for page 99 at least. Come on! You can do it. You wrote a book. You are awesome. You are going to be owning Chicago Parent before long. I am so excited for you. AGAIN...I wish I lived in Chicago. Seriously, I think all of the coolest people live there. I want to get my hands on that magazine.

    1. I did design it and I will take your compliment with great pride seeing you are a REAL artist. Just don't tell anyone how I can't differentiate between colors. Or shapes.

I would love if you moved here! Drinks on me! Email me your address and I'll drop you a copy of the big magazine (not that I don't have 100 spare copies or anything...).

  8. Congrats Marianne

Can I be the first to apply for the job of being your chauffeur? I'm visualizing pulling up to all the red carpet events you'll now be invited to and I could be like Kevin Costner and part the waves of fans as you give them a wave or something else. I'm so excited because then I could have one of those ear pieces with the wire hanging down into my suit that God knows where it ends up and I could say stuff like, "make a hole, coming thru, back, back, down, down, get the car," etc. Oh and as a caveat, I could also pick up Donny and all the girls on "The View" too, God the possibilities are endless. I'll take my meds now.

  9. Dear Columnist-formerly-known-as-Marianne,

May I call you CoFKaM for short?

I always knew you were meant for bigger things than we peons could aspire to. I'm going to make a shirt that says, "I knew CoFKaM when she was just Marianne"!

    Congrats, you deserve it!

  19. Awesome. Congrats. And stupid me, I thought you were already a Chicago Parent columnist. But I wouldn't know. I don't read parenting magazines and/or books. I already know I'm doing it all wrong. I don't need a magazine or book to validate that fact ...

    :)

    1. Hey Linda!

I've contributed before, but now I've got a regular column. All fancy and sh*t. Like Ann Landers even.

And if you embrace "doing things wrong," I think you'll like the new stuff I'm doing for them.
